Still don’t miss it

August 24, 2015 • College, Life, Work

I remember when I was getting close to graduating from high school, so many people would tell me to enjoy it because I would miss it. Here I am, six years later, and I still don’t miss it.

This week is the first week back to school, and I’m still just as glad this year as I was the year after I graduated that I don’t have to. Granted, I am taking college classes, but I think college is so different than K-12. Growing up, I hated going back to school. I never minded going to class or doing the work – I just hated school.

The only thing I loved about going back to school was back to school shopping. I have a weakness for office supplies, so that was the only thing about it I looked forward to about working in an office. I haven’t had much of an excuse in the past couple of years to buy a lot of those kinds of things. Even with college classes, I may have needed a binder, folder, or a notebook, and that was about it. Working in an office now, I’ve had a bit of an excuse to buy office supplies I wanted, and that would be handy.

My church also has a school and the new church office is right next to the school office now. It’s going to be crazy when the kids get there Wednesday. But thankfully, we have a pretty thick door, and we can just keep it shut, so it’s a little more peaceful. We won’t have to deal too much with the students or much of the school staff. Our office tends to be somewhat calm, and the only people that come in on a regular basis are both pastors and a few random other people. We don’t get much traffic since there isn’t a reason for anyone to come in unless they specifically need one of us.

Despite the fact that school starting won’t affect me, it still makes me sad. I feel like summer has come to an end. ?I remember when school let out in June and feeling like it was officially summer. And it flew by so quickly. I am looking forward to the fall and winter because of all the holidays. Not really looking forward to the gloomy weather, though.

My college classes start this week, and I’m a bit nervous about figuring out how to balance them on top of work. But I’m always nervous about it the first two weeks of classes until I get into a good rhythm of things. Rob said I probably should’ve just taken the semester off while I was adjusting to working, but I didn’t want to waste the semester. I just ended up cutting down my schedule and only taking two classes, and they’re both easy, so it shouldn’t be too bad.

If you are someone who is having to deal with the summer coming to an end and going back to school, you have my sympathy. I hope things go nice and smoothly for you!
